On-line Learning for Gardeners
Welcome to the on-line classroom of Australian Water Gardener from where high quality education will be delivered to gardeners and horticultural students across Australia. On-line learning is the modern way to learn about a wide range of horticultural subjects. Although it is clearly preferable, when teaching about gardening, to have live plants and an experienced teacher alongside, learning on-line is an excellent alternative when professionally delivered.

The Internet reaches many people who otherwise would be denied the opportunity of receiving instruction, and opens doors to those leisure gardeners who are unable to take advantage of conventional learning because of work and time constraints.

During the coming months a comprehensive range of gardening courses will become available on-line.

During the coming months a range of gardening courses will become available on-line through Australian Water Gardener. These will embrace a number of gardening subjects, in addition to those that are specific to aspects of water gardening.
Initially these will be prepared for leisure gardeners, but in the longer term it is hoped to be able to offer courses that have formally recognized validation. To this end discussions are on-going with Southern Queensland institute of TAFE Horticulture Team, Toowoomba, Queensland.

Gardeners and horticultural students who are undertaking nationally recognised training from the Amenity Horticultural Training Package, will soon be able to benefit from this collaboration through web pages on the web-site being identified as suitable educational resources linked to specific accredited untits. Pages that have been endorsed in this manner will be clearly marked and the code for the module(s) will be displayed. The first of these should receive endorsement during December.

Content will be formally recognised as an educational resource linked to specific competencies.

Water Garden Construction will feature as a two-day workshop on 13th and 14th September 2005.

While on-line learning can offer much of what is required by a gardener or horticultural student, it is an undeniable fact that some practical demonstration and experience is desirable to complement on-line learning. To this end in association with Australian Water Gardener, Southern Queensland Institute of TAFE Horticulture Team, Toowoomba, is organising a two day workshop demonstrating water garden construction on 13th and 14th September 2005 at the horticulture unit at Southern Queensland Institute of TAFE Toowoomba.
